From Everything.Sucks

Best Western International, Inc. owns the Best Western Hotels & Resorts brand, which it licenses to over 4,500 hotels worldwide. The franchise, with its corporate headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, includes more than 2,000 hotels in North America. The brand was founded by M.K. Guertin in 1946. As of May 2019, David Kong is the president and CEO of Best Western and Dorothy Dowling is the chief marketing officer. In 1964, Canadian hotel owners joined the system. Best Western then expanded to Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand in 1976. In 2002, Best Western International launched Best Western Premier in Europe and Asia. (The other hotels in the chain were known as Best Western.) In 2011, the chain's branding system-wide changed to a three-tiered system: Best Western, Best Western Plus, and Best Western Premier.

Cher shared her experience in this review: "Beware!! Went to Best Western reservation website and called the reservation number. Where the fellow I spoke with made no mention he was quoting in US$. and said free cancellation on the phone. It wasn't until I got the confirm from I saw this Price was US$ and no cancellation refund. I'm calling from Canada, booking a room in Canada. Why would I pay in US$? BW has gone to **. So much for loyalty and VIP customers. Nothing but run around from Best Western, they can't help me. Getaroom offered me $12. Will never use either of these companies again."

Former Employee - Assistant Front Desk Manager says

"Too many tasks during the the spring break. Experience the everyday hectic with all the guest check ins and outs."

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee) says

"Raise promises never met. Wrote people up for everything and had extremely strict practices for an industry that requires flexibility and circumstantial consideration."

Night Auditor (Former Employee) says

"I had unfortunately became homeless and went to Best Western in Augusta, ME and the obese front desk clerk whose pizza had just been delivered for her was more interested in eating than getting me a room. I say to people like her if she doesn’t like her job, just quit if you don’t know how to treat customers"

Night Auditor (Former Employee) says

"This job sucked, it had the worst management you will ever see. There was one manager trying to do the job of 5 when she should not have even been able to attempt one."

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee) says

"Tipicial day-to-day hotel or should I say motel duties and responsibilities, except with privately owned property running different services and management. Your asking for a headache, that's underpaid, unrespected, and a company that doesn't care to improve. Lacking resources, management, and leadership.and technology."

Sales (Former Employee) says

"Management doesn’t care what best for the hotel they only care about making sure nobody works overtime cause that money gets taken out of their “fun money” to redecorate and stuff.Good food in the restaurantEverything else"

Office Manager (Former Employee) says

"No room for growth. Very unprofessional men running huge aspects of the hotel. No leadership. Job is perfect for someone fresh out of rehab or jail, looking for a fresh start."

"My hours were changed around due to poor management and lack of communication. Pay and hours terrible. When I quit, they didn't want to pay me until I threatened with an attorney. Horrible job!!!NoneHours, pay, management"

"needs improvement poorly managed and needs leadership thar will work with thte employees not agianst them , love the hospitality industry but this was a bad experiance altoghether"

Front Desk Agent (Former Employee) says

"Lunch breaks were whenever we were not busy. did not have a specific time to be off lunch break. Management was not fair.. pay was not so great. Management was not professional. I loved my job because I was working with great customer's .worked with great customersmanagment was very poor"

Maintenance Assistant (Former Employee) says

"The general manager thinks that is living on slavery times. From the assistant manager through maintenance, house keepers and cooks are family. So if you work up there do not expect to get a rise or get a higher position before the family workers.ONE holiday and a one week vacation after a year but you can take it only with authorization of the general manager. free lunch if you want it.a lot of landscaping."

GSS (Former Employee) says

"They lie about the hours employees work and they will refuse to pay you for the time you work and they don't follow state guidelines for ot/time& a half."

Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) says

"I was the only one in the company that worked all hours for months plus my steady night audit days . My manger was mean , ungrateful, unappreciative, and highly dishonest . Upon my promotion to front desk i was promised set hours and pay ,but after a couple weeks of my pay being messed up and my hours on my check begin short i brought it to her attention and she said she would address it with the owner . Returning to me with my answers she said the owner did not think i deserved any higher pay and that i would be staying at minimum wage . I absolutely loved my job there and would prob still be there to this day if it was not for the management that was working there . She fired me because i finally got upset because i was working day in and day out and was getting shorted on my pay for months almost a yr . I would love to work for this establishment again under different management to experience the good values that i missed out in . I did Check In and "Outs, Cash Drops, Night Audit, Reservations, Pool Maintenance, ect."

Housekeeping (Former Employee) says

"My mom told me if I don't have nothing nice to say then I probably shouldn't post it on the internet! But I will say I think there may be a lack in judgment in hiring department."

Front Desk Clerk (Former Employee) says

"Expected to do laundry as a front desk agent which wouldnt be so bad if everyone did their share scheduled 8 to 12 hours a week and was lied to about why 2 full time (seasonal positions) were given to management's relatives bad management and lack of resolution for issues customer should always be right this place doesn't care Never was given a full reliable schedule scheduled 8 to 12 hours for 3 or 4 days a week and called in as needed no one can survive in a inconsistent schedule with varying days n not enough hours plus management plays favoritesNice peopleOn call hours"

Housekeeper (Current Employee) says

"go in get paper go get sheets go find cart and go to work the most part I enjoy is when us co-workers get together and team up and help each other out if we need it. the hardest part is pulling your rooms 1st then going back to clean.paid lunch breaksno benfits"

Housekeeping Attendant (Former Employee) says

"I worked there for 6 months and the management was trouble they steal from the company and then the set housekeeper up and says they steal their own tips!!! Never never work for this place . Went through 50 plus housekeeper that sad very sad. Should tell you something"

Worker (Current Employee) says

"I was very happy to begin with, the hotel was brand new. As the months went on, management got worse and worse... inevitably I had had enough and had to leave. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. If you like going to work , work hard, and not be appreciated at all , this is the place for you."

Front Desk Agent (Current Employee) says

"Manager is hardly ever there and owner only cares about cutting corners and making a buck. The hourly employees care more than the GM and owner. There's no training before you're thrown into a shift by yourself.Great hotel and guestsLack of integrity from manager and owner"

Certified Food Manager (Former Employee) says

"Everything started out great and continued for the first year. And then the general manager got unhappy. She was a micro manager and if you stood your ground or defended yourself she made things very hard on you. She nit picked her best producers and hardest workers and defended the bad apples. She lost at least 10 great employees because of this attitude. Plenty of over timeMicro managed and rules changed weekly"
